Yesterday, whilst speaking to the Leveson enquiry into press ethics, Hugh Grant made the sensational claim that his phone may have been hacked by the Mail on Sunday. He alleges that the newspaper hacked his phone in order to obtain a story about his relationship with Jemima Khan.
The newspaper “utterly refuted” the allegations made by the 51 year old actor. They said, “In the case of the story Mr Grant refers to, the information came from a freelance journalist who had been told by a source who was regularly speaking to Jemima Khan.”
That’s like Chinese whispers though isn’t it? But, even so, if the Mail on Sunday is telling the truth, it is hardly illegal or immoral journalism. The paper added, ” Mr Grant’s allegations are mendacious smears driven by his hatred of the media.”
